Welcome to the last part of the Being Plus Sized Series. Thanks for sticking with me this far!
I want to wrap up this series talking about how we can form relationships and networks and support groups through our self acceptance journeys. I want to talk about the importance of having a tribe of people around you who understand your struggles and want to see you succeed.
I have always found validation through others. Whether that has been about my relationships, the food I should be eating, or the clothes I should be wearing. I find comfort knowing that others approve of the things I do. When something feels off or I need advice about something, I always turn to others to help me make decisions or set goals.
Finding validation in others can be helpful in the moment, but can leave you feeling empty and alone because that validation might not be from a trusted source or someone who follows up and sticks around. There’s no accountability to this validation method. That’s why small tribes of people with goals and intentions work the best. There is accountability and a less lonely feeling.
The most amazing thing about being around people with similar goals, interests, and overall feelings is that you realize you’re NOT alone. You become part of something bigger than yourself and find your truth through helping others discover theirs. It’s a shared feeling of winning when someone reaches a goal or milestone. I love this part of being in at tribe.
When I think back to my journey with self acceptance (one that I am FULLY still on today) I think about all of the badass women who have given me sage advice and have celebrated my wins WITH me. It’s a feeling only being part of a group like that can bring. It’s a feeling of togetherness. It’s empowering. It feels like home.
As part of this blog, I one day hope to coach other women on self acceptance and self love. I hope to one day make this something bigger than myself– to work with women like me who struggle like me and to be there for them every step of the way.
In the meantime, I still want to help. I want to be there for you. I want you to feel like you have your people in this scary part of your life while you find self acceptance. I want you to find your tribe.
That’s why I started Sincerely Beautiful— a support group for women who want to adopt the radical notion that their self worth is not tied to the fat on their bodies. No one in this group is an expert, but we will all work together to set goals, hold each other accountable, and be there for each other to celebrate the wins. I can’t wait to get started.
Sincerely Beautiful opens on Wednesday, June 6th. If you’re interested in joining, go ahead and click on the link below to sign up!
